‘The World Belongs to You’ and Pinault
In an effort to get away from the pavilion madness and parties of the 54th Venice Biennale earlier this June we wondered over to check out Francois Pinault’s Palazzo Grassi collection. Pinault’s The World Belongs to You exhibition brought together the crème de la crème of the art world including Sigmar Polke, Maurizio Cattelan, Marlene Dumas and a sprawling Joana Vasconcelos piece, Contamination, which spread its multi coloured plush tentacles throughout the palazzo. Works from Russian photographer Sergey Bratokov and a crucifix display cabinet by Matthew Day Jackson also vied for attention, along with Giuseppe Penone’s Respirare l’Ombra, a gold and bronze sculpture of leaves in a room of fragrant tea lined walls. My favorite was Loris Greaud’s magical Gunpowder Forest Bubble – a dark room of black silhouette trees and a white moon, which is based on his Cellar Door show at the Palais de Tokyo in 2008.
